Welcome Hoover Families, July 31 2022

 

We are so excited to have your students back on campus!  Below are reminders that all students and families need to know and understand about the beginning of school. There is a great deal of information in this letter and all updates are critical for students and families to make note of.

 

School begins Wednesday, August 10th.  Our school hours are 8:15 to 3:05.  We run a six period day.  Our campus opens at 8:05 and the cafeteria welcomes students for breakfast at 7:45. ALL students will enter from the main doors at the front of the building.  All exterior gates will be locked at all times.  Students will remain in the cafeteria until 8:05 if they choose to come early for breakfast.  Outdoor campus supervision begins at 8:05, and for your child’s safety, please do not drop off students before this time unless they are eating breakfast. 

 

Hoover Middle School introduces “Away for the Day” as our new cell phone policy. Please review the attached policy and research. Hoover Middle School is a Cell Phone-Free School for students. If your family chooses to send a cell phone to school with your student, we check it in and keep it safe during the instructional day. More information will be coming regarding our check-in system. 

 

Student Schedules will be available on StudentVUE and ParentVUE by Friday, August 5th at 3:00 pm. Here is the link.  https://www.aps.edu/students-parents/parentvue-studentvue

 

We recommend printing out your student’s schedule and reviewing for any errors or omissions.  Schedule Changes are only available for students that are missing a class. Please contact your student’s counselor for a schedule review. Diane Brummell  for last names A-L and Clarissa Sandoval for M-Z. 

 

Backpacks: All students should have a backpack to carry their Chrome book, charging cord, water bottle and other school supplies to and from school. 

 

Student Drop-off and Pick up: The drop-off location for HMS is in front of our school.

    

The pick-up location is around the back of the school in the John Baker drive through Loop. Students will exit through the northwest/back of campus to be picked up by car.  

 

Advisory Teachers: Each student will be assigned an Advisory teacher that will contact you on Thursday, 8/4 in order to set up a Virtual Home Visit (google meet).  You will be able to meet the teacher and ask any questions you may have. The Advisory teacher will be an advocate for your student and a point of contact for your family as they work with students on social and emotional learning and organizational skills.

 

Transfers:  We are accepting transfers in the 6th grade.

Registration: Online registration must be completed on ParentVUE.  Please include 2 forms of proof of residency and up to date immunization records. You will be asked to upload this documentation.  If you need assistance with this process you may come to the office for technology support or call the office from 9:00-3:00 M-F.  

 

Chromebook Management: Students will receive a Chromebook during the first weeks of school. Personal devices will not be allowed. If students damage or render inoperable devices will be exchanged at the school and sent for repairs. Families may be charged for repairs and replacements if devices are damaged, lost, or stolen due to failure to secure the device.

 

Physical Education: P.E. Uniforms will be available for purchase in your child’s PE classes. The set will be available in youth and adult sizes (dri-fit shirts and shorts) will be $25.00, we are a cash-only school. 

 

Lockers: Hoover will not assign lockers this year, except for P.E. and band classes. If your student has P.E. he or she will need a combination lock. (All 6th grade students have P.E.)

 

Save the Date: We will host our Annual Title I Meeting/Open House event on Thursday, September 8th from 6:00-7:30.  

 

Breakfast and Lunch: School Breakfast and Lunches will be available for purchase using the Titan website.  Prices are $1.25 for Breakfast and $2.25 for lunch.  When you follow the link to Titan there is also a form for accessing Free & Reduced pricing. Students will simply need to input their ID #’s into a keypad.  All 6th graders will have A lunch, all 8th graders will have B lunch, and 7th graders will have one or the other determined by their 4th period teacher.  Teachers will let the 7th graders know their lunch assignment on the first day of school.

 

The Bus Schedule and Supply List are posted on our Hoover website. https://hoover.aps.edu/ Masks must be worn on buses.  An updated supply list will be posted on Friday, August 5th (late afternoon) in an effort to be as specific and accurate as possible.

 

PFO:  Please join our Parent/Faculty Organization!  It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet other Hoover families, help our students and staff with special events and support our school.  Keep a lookout for upcoming communications.
